Autumn is here, and with it comes a whole host of fun activities to enjoy with your little ones. Whether you're staying indoors or heading out into the crisp autumn air, there's something for everyone.
Here is a list of fun indoor activities that I've done with my little one over the last few years. They are largely free and fun to do - little ones love to get involved.
Indoor activities:
Make a leaf garland: Collect colorful leaves and string them together to create a beautiful decoration.
Paint with leaves: Use leaves as stamps to create unique patterns and designs.
Bake autumn-themed treats: Make pumpkin muffins, apple pies, or gingerbread cookies. Our Crafty Cooks collection can help if you're missing recipes or equipment for little ones.
Have a cozy movie night: Snuggle up on the sofa and watch a family-friendly film.
Play indoor games: Try classic games like charades, Pictionary, or board games.
Make a homemade bird feeder: Use recycled materials like milk cartons or plastic bottles to create a bird feeder and watch the birds come to visit. (See the picture below, we used oranges that we scooped the inside out of, put peanut butter on the inside and stuck bird seed to the peanut butter. Then we just pierced some small holes in the skin and hung them from trees).
Create a fall-themed sensory bin: Fill a bin with autumn-themed items like leaves, acorns, pine cones, and small pumpkins. Let your child explore and play with the items.
Have a fall-themed tea party: Set up a cozy tea party with fall-themed decorations and treats.
Learn about autumn animals: Read books or watch videos about animals that hibernate or migrate during the fall.
Make a fall-themed collage: Use leaves, twigs, and other natural materials to create a colorful collage.
Outdoor activities:
Go for a nature walk: Explore your local park or forest and collect autumn treasures like leaves, acorns, and pine cones.
Jump in piles of leaves: There's nothing quite like the joy of jumping into a pile of crunchy leaves.
Make a leaf man: Create a funny leaf man using leaves, sticks, and other natural materials that you collect on a walk, in the park or in your garden.
Fly a kite: Take advantage of the autumn winds and fly a kite.
Roast marshmallows: Have a campfire and roast marshmallows for a sweet treat.
Go apple picking: Visit a local orchard and pick your own apples.
Carve pumpkins: Get creative and carve pumpkins into spooky jack-o'-lanterns.
Collect colorful leaves: Press leaves between paper and create beautiful leaf prints.
Have a leaf hunt: Go on a nature walk and see how many different types of leaves you can find.
Build a leaf fort: Use branches and leaves to build a cozy fort in your backyard.
No matter what you choose to do, have fun and make memories with your little ones this autumn. It's a beautiful time of year, even if it rains!
